Calculate how inflation affects the purchasing power of money over time. Uses official Eurostat HICP data for the Eurozone.
Period selected: 14 years
This calculator uses the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for the Eurozone, published by Eurostat. HICP measures the change in prices of a representative basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households.
The calculator multiplies your initial amount by each year's inflation rate cumulatively. This compound effect means that inflation over many years has a larger impact than simple addition of yearly rates.
Formula::
Vfinal = Vinitial × (1 + r1) × (1 + r2) × ... × (1 + rn)
Where r₁, r₂, etc. are the annual inflation rates for each year in decimal form (e.g., 2% = 0.02).
